Matagalpa - Deploring the murder of Enrique Aguinaga Castrillo, nicknamed "Invisible Captain", which took place last Saturday, April 30, and considering that there is nothing positive from the militarization of rural areas of the country, the Bishop of Matagalpa, His Exc. Mgr. Rolando Josť Alvarez Lagos, urged to put an end to the crimes against civilians, especially in the north of the country. "People live in terror ... therefore it is important to demilitarize the area and stop any kind of crime against civilians" asked the Bishop.
Yesterday morning, May 3, Mgr. Alvarez Lagos celebrated Mass in the parish of Our Lord of Veracruz, in the community of El Cacao, municipality of Dario, and complained about the murder of Aguinaga to the local press. According to media reports, Aguinaga was one of the Nicaraguans who had requested political asylum in Honduras in 2013 and then went back to Nicaragua as a leader of an allegedly armed group, contrary to the unconstitutional government of Daniel Ortega.
According to the army’s version, the soldiers killed "a thug", while Aguinaga’s family claims that he was savagely killed during an ambush, riddled with bullets. In this regard, Mgr. Alvarez commented that "every crime committed against human beings, against civilians, who are defenseless, is entirely reprehensible".
